I have one very strict rule about finding decent restaurants when I’m travelling abroad and it’s this: eat where the locals are eating. 🍴
Why? If THEY’RE eating there, you know it’s gonna be good. You’re also pretty much guaranteed to avoid food poisoning.
And if I can’t figure out where the locals eat, you bet your ass I’ll be scouring TripAdvisor to find the highest-rated places before I put a morsel in my mouth.
It’s this rule that helped me dodge the dreaded “Delhi belly” in India… even while all my friends were throwing up inside their backpacks.
This rule works because people want what other people want.
It’s also why powerful testimonials can massively boost your sales.
They’re an easy and non-sleazy way to show how brilliant you are—by getting your happy customers to do it for you.
To get *rave* reviews, however, you need to give your peeps a few prompts. You want to make sure they write about the honest-to-goodness-life-changing-magic they’ve experienced as a result of your product or service.
After all, the only thing that matters to new potential customers is the proven RESULT you’ve helped others achieve. 🏆
Below are the exact questions I ask my clients to help them create awesome testimonials (if we’ve worked together, you’ll already know I encourage you to steal ‘em and use them for yourself!):
Questions to help you get rave reviews:
- What specific results did you experience from working with me?
- What doubts did you have before hiring me, if any?
- What did you like best about [product or service]?
- What do you feel is important for others to know about my [product or service]?
- How is your [relevant result] different now, compared to when we started working together?
- Were you pleasantly surprised by any aspect of us working together?
Remember to ask for a testimonial whenever you make a sale or finish a piece of work. And if a customer sends you amazing feedback just ‘cos they love ya, ask their permission to use their words in your promotional materials.
Once you’ve got a bank of reviews, use the best ones on your sales pages, website, social media feed, email newsletter… basically EVERYWHERE.
Let people know your customers think you rock. 😉
P.S. If you don’t have any paid customers yet, offer your product or service for free in exchange for a testimonial. Five should probably be enough to get you started.
